Sustainability in construction and development:
KAYI has a clear commitment to sustainability in construction, energy and services with its reputable place among major international contracting companies. KAYI does not only construct buildings, factories, business centers, shopping centers, residential centers, power plants and health complexes; KAYI creates living spaces in the countries of operation; thus has a social responsibility for society and environment both today and tomorrow.
KAYI designs, builds, develops and operates sustainable projects by maximizing the quality, affordability and efficiency while minimizing the environmental effects of the projects such as the use of water, raw materials, energy and land. During the design phase of construction and development projects, KAYI takes all the measures to achieve maximum efficiency leading to reduce energy consumption and to prevent construction waste by reusing construction and demolition materials.
Sustainability in business and social practices:
Sustainability and corporate responsibility is the core of KAYI Holding’s business practices and it is based on company’s goal as KAYI delivers projects that are respectful to nature and environment we live in while prioritizing the awareness of social responsibility.
KAYI has sustainable business practices based on four important values:
1– Incorporating health & safety into all operations: KAYI is committed to provide healthy & safe working environment both on construction sites and in administrative and operational working environments. KAYI has the certificate of Occupational Health and Safety System OHSAS 18001:2007 with which KAYI maintains an important approach to the health and safety issues.
2– Incorporating economical awareness into all operations: KAYI uses limited resources economically and raises awareness among the employees to use all the resources effectively such as reducing water and electricity usage, reduction of unnecessary paper usage, emphasizing low cost solutions, raising awareness both on environmental and social impacts of consumption and visioning the future for being more aware of using these resources economically.
3– Incorporating environmental awareness into all operations: KAYI is aware of the global climate problems and maintains an effective response by meeting the needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. KAYI focuses on conserving and restoring the natural ecosystem in all stages of the design, construction and operation phases.
KAYI holds the certificate of Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004 and Gold Certificate for voluntary carbon trading that offers respected framework for the development and implementation of emission reduction.
KAYI also holds the ‘go green’ philosophy and promotes the sustainable energy with the construction and investment of renewable energy projects such as hydroelectric power plants, geothermal and biomass projects in Turkey.
4– Incorporating social and cultural sustainability in all operations: KAYI enhances the social and cultural sustainability by promoting the sustainable development, which increases the quality of life for today and tomorrow by supporting the ecosystem. KAYI trains all its employees in order to understand and appreciate the importance of sustaining natural resources. To realize this aim, recycling and effective waste management is KAYI’s top priority.
Advisory Board was established to evaluate KAYI Group’s vision, mission, goals and strategies set to achieve such goals; to express its opinion and advice on the decisions and actions taken in order to implement these strategies; and to recommend on technical, financial, legal, administrative and corporate matters and on compliance issues, when necessary. Advisory Board is the decision making body in all activity areas on competency, corporate governance and risk management, compliance with legislation and regulations in the countries of operation, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs and other investment decisions, annual and medium term financing decisions, new activity areas, new markets, etc. Our Advisory Board comprises businessmen with high reputation in their field of expertise as follows:
Mr. Korkmaz is the Senior Lecturer at the University of Neuchâtel, and Lecturer at Koc University. Previously, Mr. Korkmaz was the Founding President of Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT), and Director of the Agency for the Promotion of International Investment of the Canton of Neuchâtel (Switzerland), and Deputy Director of the Agency Development Economic Western Switzerland (DEWS). From 2006-2010,when he founded and chaired the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey, Mr. Korkmaz was also the Special Advisor for International Investment of HE the Prime Minister of Turkey. Mr. Korkmaz is completing the PhD at CEDS (Centre d’Etudes Diplomatiques et Stratégiques) Paris and has BA and Masters in Management from the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland).
Mr. Kozanoğlu is currently a Board Room Coach. He previously held CEO and then Vice Chairman positions at Ergo Group and was the President of Financial Services at Sabanci Holding. From 2000 to 2009, Mr. Kozanoğlu had several board roles at Sabancı Group Financial Services such as Vice Chairman of the Board of Akbank, Chairman of Audit Committee of Akbank, Chairman of Aksigorta, and Chairman of Avivasa. Mr. Kozanoğlu also had several positions in the affiliates of Sabancı Holding such as Chairman of Sabancı Bank at Channel Islands, Chairman of BNP Paribas – Ak Dresdner Bank JV in Turkey, Vice Chairman and Audit Committee Member of Sabancı Bank in London, and other chairman positions in other affiliates and boards of Sabancı Group. Mr. Kozanoğlu has Mechanical Engineering degree from METU (ODTU) and then Computer Science M.Sc. degree from University of London.
Aka Gündüz ÖZDEMİR
Mr. Aka Gündüz Özdemir is the board member of Galatasaray Club and Galatasaray Retailing Company. Previously, he was the CEO of Arcelik and then the President of Consumer Durables Group of Koc Holding A.Ş. Mr. Özdemir began his career at Beko Ticaret in 1972; progressing to Sales Chief, Regional Sales Manager, Assistant Sales Manager, Sales Manager, and Assistant General Manager for Sales & Marketing and then General Manager from 1991 to 2000. Mr. Özdemir was the Assistant Vice President of the Durable Goods Group at KOÇ Holding from 2000 to 2003 and then the Director of Arçelik A.Ş. Mr. Özdemir graduated from Istanbul Academy of Economics and Commerce.
Mr. Coşkun Yılmaz is the founder and Chairman of KAYI Holding Inc. He founded KAYI in 1991, which is one of the Turkey’s leading international contracting companies with both domestic and overseas high quality construction standards, year by year growing business volume, advanced strategy on investments, added value experiences and highly skilled staff and workforce. Mr. Yılmaz has Civil Engineering (BS) degree from Bosphorus University and then MBA degree from Harvard Business School. He held a position in management of Galatasaray FC between 2001 and 2002.
